Rough Cut
The rough cut for the video was very messy at the start. I didn't put in effects until the end, excluding a few moments where the video shifted from black and white to full colour or vice versa. There were a lot of issues with the visuals of this cut of the video, since most of the shots look bland and the only effect is the moments where the colour changes. In the end, I think adding the glitch effect to my edit benefited it a lot, and changing the pacing and the footage used was definitely for the better.
Effects
Effects used: colour correcting, monochrome filter, overlaying footage, glitch effects (through key frames and positioning), blur, and zoom.

Meaning
The concept I used behind this video was "opposites". The original song is about the singer's breakup in the past and his desperation to get back with his ex, contrasted with the present where the singer is the one who is successful, and his ex is trying to get back with him. In the video, the idea is that he goes onto the stage and starts singing about his breakup, but that triggers his ex calling him back in real life, trying to barge back into the singer's life and become a part of the stage (in other words using his fame for her own benefit, like the song describes her trying to do).
The video starts in black and white to differentiate between the singer's real life and the stage. The colours turn red and blue as the video starts. For the first set of lyrics, the lights are blue and yellow to represent his calm state of mind. Then the blue becomes purple, a colour that could be connected with either royalty or (when used alongside the yellow) vertigo. It suggests that his ex calling him has thrown him off balance. Then the purple changes to red, suggesting that his confusion has turned to anger and that now he is dissatisfied with his current situation. Then the yellow turns back to purple. The connection to royalty that the colour purple provides (especially alongside red) suggests that the singer is starting to realise why his ex called him in the first place, and the red suggests that it has only led to his anger building. Additionally, by using yellow and purple earlier, bringing back purple here implies that the singer is still confused and uncertain.
The glitch effect I used in my edit also added to the meaning. Every time the phone appears on screen (which signifies the ex) the glitch effect accompanies it. This also lines up with the additional voice lines used in the original song to represent the ex. The glitches represent an issue with either the version of the singer presented on the stage, or his own personal life, both of which the ex is trying to break back into. It's an issue he can't deal with, which is why he goes storming off.
Similar to the glitch effect, there are moments in the music video where I overlaid the colour versions of our footage over the black and white versions, fading the colour layer in and out to create a distortion effect. I used this effect to represent the singer's real life desires leaking onto the stage. When it appears at the very beginning of the video, the singer's anger and uncertainty is leaking out of him like radiation. The second time I used it was during a flashback, starting around 30 secs in after when the lyrics say the line "but that was last year". The singer remembers the time he was trying to call his ex back, and considers just throwing his phone to the ground in frustration. The following clip shows him in the present giving in to that urge and letting out his frustrations just before he storms off.
The distorted effect appears again in the next section, this one taking place in the bathroom. The contrasting opposites idea comes into play a lot here, and the fact that we had footage from either side of Sorin definitely benefited the idea. As the screen fades back to black and white to signal the singer returning to normal life, the phone reappears alongside his ex's voice. The two different shots in the bathroom both represent the different sides of the protagonist. On the one hand, the version in full colour that he tries to present to the world (although this version is much lower quality, to suggest that the ex's reappearance has affected his work), and on the other hand the distorted version, the part that should stay personal, but that the ex is dragging into the spotlight. With every line, he switches between these two ideas, over time gaining more confidence in himself. In the end, he washes off the colour and the distortion, and leaves the bathroom, escaping the trap he had fallen into.
The next case of "opposites" in this video comes into play throughout it, which is the contrast between "the outside" and "the inside". He starts the video walking onto a metaphorical stage, walking in front of the camera. At the moment, it's a closed system. Until the music is released, it stays enclosed. Then, he retreats further inside to the bathroom, a tight space representing his less confident mental state that he tries to break out of. After that, he travels through more corridors and inside spaces, but this time he is moving forwards. He isn't free yet, but he's working towards self improvement. Then, finally, the greyscale fades away and the doors open, letting him out into the open world. He's back on the "stage", but this time he isn't trapped by expectations or the past. He's free to do whatever he wants, and that's where he finds success.
The next section of the video shows the singer walking up sets of stairs and opening the door at the top. This presents his tiresome journey towards success, conveyed by him moving from the bottom to the top. He walks through yet another corridor, still moving forward. This represents the new challenges he has and will face as he grows and develops as a person and as a creator. And on the other side, he ends up outside one more time. The world around him turns grey, conveying the transition back to his own personal life, and he looks at his phone (without glitches to present how the issues posed before no longer affect him). The video fades back to greyscale, and the singer hangs up, finally cutting his ties with his ex in the real world as well as on the stage.
